Appendage of an amphipod

Amphipods are aquatic creatures that differ from their isopod cousins like pill bugs and woodlice. Amphipods have appendages that serve different functions, unlike isopods where each appendage looks alike. In this micrograph, a feather-like, 0.8mm long appendage captures plankton in a net structure before scooping the prey into the amphipod’s mouth.
